Delegation Seeks ₹10 Crore State Funding For Asian Rowing Championships In Pimpri

On Tuesday, a delegation led by Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode met with Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Sunetra Pawar in Mumbai to submit a memorandum seeking ₹10 crore in funding. The requested financial assistance from the Maharashtra government is intended to support the hosting of the upcoming Under-19 and Under-23 Asian Rowing Championships at the Army Rowing Node, located within the College of Military Engineering campus in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The delegation stated that the proposed ₹10 crore grant will be utilized to develop world-class competition infrastructure and procure modern equipment for the international event. Additionally, the funds will go toward establishing technical facilities, strengthening security arrangements, and managing accommodation, transportation, and other essential services for the participating athletes and officials.
During the meeting in Mumbai, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar and Deputy Speaker Bansode also felicitated Indian rowers Laksh and Ujjwal Kumar Singh. The athletes recently achieved historic success by winning the gold medal in the Lightweight Men's Double Sculls event at the Rowing World Cup III held in Lucerne, Switzerland. The leaders congratulated the athletes on bringing glory to India and wished them success in future international competitions.
Bansode noted that both rowers had laid the foundation of their success through rigorous training at the Army Rowing Node, which is situated in the Pimpri Assembly constituency. He expressed that their international achievement is a matter of pride not only for the nation but also specifically for Pimpri-Chinchwad.
The medal-winning rowers also briefed the Deputy Chief Minister on their training regime, preparation for upcoming international events, and the facilities currently available at the Army Rowing Node.
Members of the delegation expressed confidence that securing the state government's financial support for the Under-19 and Under-23 Asian Rowing Championships would help place Pimpri-Chinchwad prominently on the international sporting map.
