Deported Bangladeshi Woman Arrested Near Chowpatty on N.S. Patkar Road
A 27-year-old Bangladeshi woman who had previously been deported from India was arrested by the Mumbai Police on August 15 near Chowpatty opposite Wilson College on N.S. Patkar Road for staying in the city without valid travel documents.
According to the First Information Report registered at Gamdevi Police Station, police received a tip-off at around 8.15 am that a suspected Bangladeshi national was moving along the footpath adjoining Chowpatty. A police team comprising Police Head Constable Dhanraj Rathod, PSI Nirmal, and other personnel was dispatched to the location, where they spotted a woman matching the description provided by the informant.
When questioned on the spot, the woman allegedly gave evasive replies concerning her identity and address. She was subsequently brought to Gamdevi Police Station for further interrogation.
During questioning, she identified herself as Nadira Sultana, aged 27, and initially provided an address located in Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai. Police personnel asked her to provide proof of Indian citizenship and served her a notice in Hindi and Bengali directing her to produce the necessary documentation.
Sultana failed to produce any valid documents proving Indian citizenship and later admitted during questioning that she was a Bangladeshi national. She provided her permanent address as Kekariya village, Sultan Shahi post, under the Gopalganj police station jurisdiction in Gopalganj district, Bangladesh. She also identified her parents as Shahid Fakir and Rina Begum.
Police records confirmed that deportation proceedings had previously been initiated against her under a Deportation Order dated July 22, 2026, issued by the Foreigners Registration Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch-I, CID, Mumbai. She had earlier been deported by the Govandi Police.
Following her deportation to Bangladesh, Sultana allegedly returned to India by crossing through an unauthorised forest route along the India-Bangladesh border without valid travel documents or written permission from competent authorities. Gamdevi Police have registered a case against her under relevant legal provisions concerning illegal entry, and further investigation is currently underway.
