Dindoshi Court Grants Anticipatory Bail to API Devendra Kate in Amboli Case

The Dindoshi Sessions Court in Mumbai has granted anticipatory bail to Assistant Police Inspector (API) Devendra Kate in connection with a criminal case registered by the Amboli Police.

Additional Sessions Judge Neeta S. Anekar allowed Kate's pre-arrest bail application on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 with one or two sureties. The case against the officer was registered under Sections 69 (sexual intercourse on false promise of marriage), 89 (causing miscarriage without woman's consent), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant stated that she first came into contact with Kate in 2024 while pursuing a criminal complaint. Their interaction subsequently developed into a romantic relationship.

The complainant alleged that Kate established physical relations with her on the promise of marriage at hotels in Amboli, continuing the relationship over several months. She further stated that Kate induced her to terminate two pregnancies and later began avoiding her, which led her to attempt suicide.

Kate sought pre-arrest bail through his advocate, Karan Mehta. In his plea, Kate denied the allegations levelled against him and contended before the court that the relationship between the two parties was consensual.
