Doctor and staff assaulted over Rs 1500 bill at Kalyan East hospital

A doctor and several hospital staff members were assaulted by a patient and his armed associates at Janaki Global Hospital in Kalyan East, Thane, following a dispute over a Rs 1,500 medical bill. The patient, identified as Sonu, reportedly refused to pay for his treatment and instead summoned a group of men to attack the medical team.

According to hospital authorities, Sonu had visited the hospital for treatment after complaining of a fever. The medical staff provided routine care, which included administering an injection and an intravenous drip.

The total treatment bill amounted to approximately Rs 2,000. However, hospital officials stated that they reduced the amount to nearly Rs 1,500 on humanitarian grounds. Despite the concession, Sonu allegedly refused to clear the payment and began making excuses to avoid paying.

Hospital staff reported that Sonu initially claimed he would make the payment online through GPay. He later told the staff that his friend was waiting downstairs with the cash. Hoping to recover the dues, hospital employees accompanied the patient outside the building.

Upon stepping outside, several men who were waiting near the hospital premises launched a sudden attack on the doctor and the accompanying staff members. The group used rods, sticks, punches, and kicks to assault the medical team.

The violent clash left multiple hospital employees injured, including a doctor identified as Dr. Ashok. Dr. Ashok stated that the patient had received standard treatment and that the hospital had even discounted the bill, but the patient instead planned the assault with his associates.

The entire incident was captured on the hospital's CCTV cameras, and a video of the assault has since gone viral on social media. Following a complaint, the local police registered a case and initiated a search operation to trace the accused individuals using the CCTV footage and other evidence.
