Doctor Assaulted at Private Hospital in Kalyan, Police Register Case

An orthopaedist was allegedly abused and beaten by the son of a patient at a private hospital in Kalyan, Maharashtra, late on Saturday night. The incident has raised fresh concerns regarding the safety of medical professionals in the region.

The altercation took place at around 11 pm on Saturday when Dr Yogendra Jaiswal was examining a patient who had sustained a rib fracture. According to Dr Jaiswal, he had outlined and explained the required medical treatment, including necessary bandaging and medication, to the family.

However, the patient's son repeatedly asked the same questions and addressed the doctor in an informal and disrespectful manner. When Dr Jaiswal objected to the tone and language being used, the man questioned his status as a doctor, walked outside, and began abusing him. He subsequently returned and allegedly assaulted the orthopaedist.

A police case has been registered in connection with the assault, although no arrests have been reported so far. Dr Jaiswal has demanded strict legal action against the accused, stating that medical professionals spend years training to save lives and should not have to face violence while performing their professional duties.

The attack has sparked widespread concern among doctors in the area, who have reiterated their demands for enhanced security measures and better protection at private and public medical facilities.

This incident follows a separate altercation weeks earlier, in which Kalyan-Dombivli Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre was allegedly caught on camera assaulting a woman doctor and other hospital staff members in neighbouring Dombivli. Mhatre had denied the allegations of attacking the doctor and refused to tender an apology.
