Dombivli Software Developer Duped of Rs 11.05 Lakh by Man Met on Dating App

A senior software developer residing in Dombivli has allegedly been cheated of Rs 11,05,852 by a man she met on the dating app Aisle, who promised to marry her and repeatedly sought financial help under the pretext of medical emergencies.

The victim, who works as a senior software developer at LTIMindtree in Navi Mumbai, met a man on the dating platform who identified himself as Sai Kiran Kondal Reddy. The suspect claimed to be employed with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and proposed marriage to the woman. While the two spoke daily over the phone, they never met in person.

According to the police, the fraudulent requests began in April when the suspect claimed his father was suffering from a severe kidney ailment and required urgent medical treatment. Believing his assertions, the woman began transferring funds through her credit cards, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and personal savings.

To keep the victim reassured, the suspect later sent fake transaction receipts and screenshots, claiming that he had transferred the borrowed money back to her account from the United Kingdom. When the money failed to reflect in her account, he convinced her that international transfer processing caused the delay, prompting her to continue sending additional instalments.

Between April 18 and August 10, the woman transferred funds across multiple transactions, reaching a total of Rs 11,05,852. Her final transfer of Rs 1.33 lakh was made on August 10, after which she exhausted her savings and realised she had been defrauded.

Following the discovery of the fraud, the woman submitted a complaint on the national cybercrime reporting portal and subsequently approached the Vishnu Nagar Police in Dombivli.

The Vishnu Nagar Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 66D of the Information Technology Act along with Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation into the case is currently underway.
