Dongri Police Arrest 3 Men with Mephedrone in Car Carrying Fake Police Plate
The Dongri Police have arrested three men in Wadi Bunder for allegedly transporting mephedrone in a private car fitted with a fake 'POLICE' plate to evade law enforcement checks. The police operation took place at around 2.50 pm on August 8 near the bridge opposite Sunni Masjid on S.V.P. Road in the Wadi Bunder area.
Police identified the three arrested individuals as Zameer Siddiq Sayyed, 26, Somnath Sharad Mahajan, 30, and Mohammed Zeeshan Afsar Sayyed, 29. Law enforcement officials seized a total of 7.2 grams of mephedrone, valued at approximately ₹1.08 lakh, alongside the private vehicle bearing registration number MH-43-CC-3277.
The incident unfolded when a team from the Dongri Police station was conducting routine patrolling duties along S.V.P. Road. Officers spotted a private car parked at a suspicious location and raised doubts regarding the activities of two occupants sitting inside the vehicle.
Investigators subsequently searched the vehicle in the presence of panch witnesses. During the physical search, officers allegedly recovered 3.4 grams of mephedrone from Zameer Sayyed and 3.8 grams from Somnath Mahajan, bringing the total drug recovery to 7.2 grams.
During initial questioning, Zameer Sayyed and Somnath Mahajan allegedly admitted to investigators that they had purchased the mephedrone from Mohammed Zeeshan Afsar Sayyed. Acting on this disclosure, police officials traced the third suspect and placed him under arrest.
A formal case has been registered against the three accused under Sections 8(c) and 22(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, in addition to Section 205 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Following their arrest, the men were produced in court, which remanded them to police custody until the following day.
The Dongri Police have expanded their probe to determine the origin of the seized mephedrone and the total period the suspects had allegedly been involved in drug trafficking. Investigators are currently examining financial transactions, potential accomplices, and the wider procurement and distribution network associated with the accused.
