Eknath Shinde Orders Action Plan to Ease Traffic in Chakan-Talegaon Industrial Belt
The Maharashtra government will accord top priority to resolving infrastructure and traffic-related problems in the Chakan-Talegaon industrial belt, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Sunday during a videoconference meeting with local industrialists. Shinde directed the administration to prioritise pothole repairs, deploy modern road technologies, and execute an immediate action plan to ease congestion in the area.
Under the directives, 14 government departments will work under a committee led by Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, who will serve as the nodal officer to address concerns raised by industries and residents. Shinde directed the collector to hold coordination meetings every Friday to expedite pending infrastructure works.
To tackle road deterioration during the monsoon, Shinde suggested adopting pre-cast road technology—similar to that used on the Thane-Nashik route and at the Kashedi tunnel—along with geo-polymer techno patches. He also ordered officials to review ongoing road works in the Chakan industrial area, accelerate their completion, and take action against contractors delaying projects or failing to perform.
Shinde announced that the long-pending development plan for Chakan city will be approved soon. Officials were instructed to prioritize pothole filling along road edges and plan new internal roads, alternative routes, and flyovers to curb gridlock. He also directed the preparation of an integrated infrastructure plan covering roads, electricity, water supply, sewage, and solid waste management.
To address utility and civic needs, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) will provide land for solid waste management facilities, police stations, fire stations, hospitals, and a new electricity substation. Meanwhile, Mahatransco has planned to install a new transformer by August 31.
The meeting was attended by Industries Minister Uday Samant, MP Dr Amol Kolhe, Legislative Council member Dr Neelam Gorhe, MLA Babaji Kale, and senior officials from the Industries Department, MIDC, PMRDA, and the Pune district administration. Shinde added that the proposed Dedicated Freight Corridor connecting Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ranjangaon, and Chakan MIDCs, as well as a proposed highway connecting Uran, Karjat, Rajgurunagar, Shirur, and Pune, will boost industrial development and ease regional traffic.
