Eknath Shinde orders removal of illegal hoardings in Thane after accident

Following a hoarding accident that occurred in Thane on Tuesday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the Thane Municipal Corporation to immediately remove all illegal hoardings across the city. The directive was reported on July 14, 2026, amid safety concerns during the ongoing monsoon season.
After taking cognisance of the recent accident, Shinde spoke directly to the Thane Municipal Commissioner. During the conversation, he instructed the civic authorities to launch an immediate drive against all unauthorised hoardings found within the city limits.
Beyond the removal of illegal boards, the Deputy Chief Minister also ordered a comprehensive structural audit of all large hoardings in the city. This measure is aimed at assessing the safety of these large installations, particularly to address the risks posed by strong winds and heavy rainfall during the wet season.
The Thane Municipal Corporation will execute the safety-focused structural audits and the immediate drive against unauthorised hoardings to prevent further accidents and protect residents from potential hazards.
