Eknath Shinde travels to Delhi amid speculation over Union Cabinet expansion

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde traveled to New Delhi on Monday to meet with senior BJP leaders, triggering speculation over a Union Cabinet expansion that could benefit leaders from Kalyan and other parts of the state. The visit has fueled discussions about potential ministerial berths for newly inducted Shiv Sena MPs and Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde.
Shinde's travel to the national capital comes shortly after his meeting with Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar. The Deputy Chief Minister is expected to hold high-level discussions with senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership to outline the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) political strategy.
The political development follows "Operation Tiger," where six Members of Parliament from the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena defected to join the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. This move has reportedly strengthened Shinde's position within the ruling alliance.
There is widespread speculation in political circles that two of these newly inducted MPs could be accommodated in the upcoming Union Cabinet expansion. Additionally, the name of Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde is reportedly under consideration for a ministerial post at the Centre.
Other names circulating as potential contenders for ministerial positions include Dharashiv MP Omraje Nimbalkar and Parbhani MP Sanjay alias Bandu Jadhav. However, neither the BJP nor the Shiv Sena has officially confirmed these appointments.
The proposed Cabinet reshuffle is expected to introduce new faces while reviewing the performance of existing ministers. Reports suggest that Maharashtra is likely to receive significant representation in the reshuffle, which could also result in some current Union ministers being dropped.
The visit has also intensified speculation regarding leadership changes within Maharashtra. Unconfirmed reports suggested that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis might be given a major responsibility at the Centre, which could clear the way for Eknath Shinde to be considered for the Chief Minister post again. However, leaders from the ruling Mahayuti alliance have dismissed these claims as mere speculation, stating that no such decisions have been officially discussed.
