Elderly Pedestrian Radhakrishna Menon Killed by Teenage Motorcyclist in Andheri West

An 82-year-old pedestrian was killed on Sunday after a teenage motorcyclist rammed into him on Lokhandwala Back Road in Andheri West, Mumbai. The victim, Radhakrishna K P Menon, was walking from his home in Four Bungalows to his son's residence in S V P Nagar to meet his granddaughter when the crash occurred.
The Versova police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the motorcyclist, 18-year-old Rachit Singh, for rash driving and negligence. Singh was also injured in the collision and was subsequently admitted to a hospital.
According to Menon’s son, Sreejit, the incident took place during his father’s routine evening walk. Sreejit received a phone call from his father’s mobile number around 7:25 p.m., but a stranger spoke on the other end, informing him that his father had been injured in a road crash near Second Cross Lane.
When Sreejit rushed to the location, he found his father lying unconscious on the street with severe injuries. Passersby at the scene noted that the teenage motorcyclist was also injured. Menon was cremated on Monday.
Following the fatal accident, Menon's family and local resident groups have raised serious concerns about pedestrian safety and the lack of proper infrastructure on Lokhandwala Back Road. Sreejit noted that the pavements along his father's walking route were in shambles, emphasizing that pedestrian-friendly infrastructure must be prioritized to ensure the safety of senior citizens.
Dhaval Shah of the Lokhandwala Oshiwara Citizens’ Association stated that the teenager was riding a powerful motorcycle at high speed. The association has proposed that the traffic department install automatic number plate recognition cameras on the stretch to capture speeding vehicles and issue challans. Shah noted that strict enforcement is key to ensuring road safety.
This is not the first major accident on this stretch. In March 2025, a speeding car driven by a 19-year-old hit a 54-year-old woman and her 31-year-old daughter on Lokhandwala Back Road, leaving them severely injured.
