Electric NMMT AC Bus Gutted in Fire at Turbhe Depot in Navi Mumbai

An electric air-conditioned bus operated by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) was completely gutted after a fire broke out at the transit agency's depot in Turbhe, Navi Mumbai, on Monday night, July 13, 2026.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 PM at the NMMT depot in Turbhe. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, as the bus was unoccupied at the time the fire erupted.
According to municipal transport officials, the electric air-conditioned bus had been taken out of service earlier in the day. The decision to withdraw the vehicle from its route was made after it developed a mechanical fault. Following this, the bus was driven to the Turbhe depot and parked.
Later in the evening, a fire broke out, with the source of the blaze suspected to be a fault within the vehicle's battery unit. The fire quickly spread, completely gutting the entire bus.
Firefighters responded to the emergency at the Turbhe depot. The prompt action taken by the responding firefighters successfully contained the fire to the single vehicle, preventing the intense flames from spreading to other nearby buses parked inside the depot.
While a battery fault is currently suspected as the cause of the fire, further details regarding the mechanical fault and the subsequent battery failure have not been officially confirmed. The incident left the electric bus completely destroyed, but the depot operations were secured without any casualties.
