Electrician Found Dead In Panvel Pit Was Strangled, Police Book Sameer Sheikh

The Panvel City Police have registered a murder case against a resident named Sameer Sheikh after the body of a 28-year-old electrician was recovered from a waterlogged pit near Mahatma Phule College at Varcha Ovla in Panvel, Navi Mumbai. The deceased, identified as Shubham Maruti Pawar, was found on July 8, and a subsequent post-mortem examination revealed he had been strangled to death.

Pawar, who previously lived at Varcha Ovla, had recently moved with his family to Karanjade in Panvel and worked as an electrician for a private firm in Bhandup. On July 7, Pawar left his residence for Varcha Ovla to attend to an electrical job. When he failed to return home, his family filed a missing person's report at the Panvel City Police Station.

The following day, on July 8 at around 2 p.m., police discovered Pawar's body in a waterlogged pit behind a water tank near Mahatma Phule College. Investigators initially registered an accidental death case and sent the body for a post-mortem examination.

The post-mortem report established that Pawar's cause of death was strangulation. Following this finding, a detailed probe was launched by investigators led by Police Inspector Abhijit Abhang.

According to the police investigation, Pawar had entered the home of Sameer Sheikh on July 7 while Sheikh's wife was home alone and allegedly demanded sexual favors from her. When Sheikh learned of the incident, he confronted Pawar, assaulted him, and strangled him to death.

Police stated that Sheikh then dumped Pawar's body in the nearby water-filled pit in an attempt to destroy evidence and make the death appear accidental.

The Panvel City Police have registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Sheikh. The accused remains at large, and police teams are currently conducting search operations to locate and arrest him.
