Ex-Vasai Corporator's Son Arrested with Rs 27.30 Lakh MDMA in Matunga

The Azad Maidan Unit of the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) has arrested 39-year-old Vishal Marathe, son of former Vasai corporator Shilpa Marathe, for allegedly possessing and selling illegal narcotics near Five Gardens in Matunga East.

According to police officials, an ANC patrolling team spotted Marathe behaving suspiciously on August 6, 2026, near Seema Shulk Nivas Bungalow at 12 Adenwala Road, Five Gardens, Matunga East. Officers detained him on the spot and conducted a physical search.

During the search, the police team allegedly recovered 100 MDMA/Ecstasy tablets weighing approximately 68 grams. The seized contraband has an estimated street value of Rs 27.30 lakh.

Following the search and recovery, the Azad Maidan Unit registered a case against Marathe under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and took him into custody.

Marathe was later produced before a court, which remanded him in police custody until August 12, 2026. Investigators are currently attempting to determine the source of the MDMA tablets, identify the intended recipients, and ascertain whether Marathe operated as part of a larger drug distribution network.
