Exposed Cable Outside Vashi APMC Export Building Sparks Electrocution Fears

Traders, residents, workers, and pedestrians outside the APMC export building in Sector 19-F, Vashi, Navi Mumbai, raised urgent safety concerns on July 14, 2026, after discovering an exposed electrical cable passing through an open drain chamber. The dangerous setup has sparked widespread fears of electrocution during the monsoon season, particularly in light of a recent accident in nearby Nerul where two teenage girls suffered electric shocks.
The hazardous spot is located along a busy commercial stretch right outside the APMC export building in Sector 19-F. Daily commuters and market workers noticed the exposed electrical cable running directly through an open drain chamber. The cable then connects to a nearby distribution box.
A video of the site, which was posted on social media, clearly captured the electrical cable passing through the open drain. The footage has alarmed the local community, including the numerous traders, workers, and pedestrians who use this specific route every day.
The safety risks have been significantly heightened by the ongoing monsoon. Rainwater has collected around the open drain chamber, and several other drains in the immediate vicinity have been left completely uncovered. Local residents and traders expressed deep anxiety that the combination of waterlogging and the exposed live wire could lead to a severe accident.
The community is now calling for immediate safety interventions from authorities to secure the cable and cover the open drains. They pointed to the recent Nerul incident, which occurred just a week prior, as a stark warning of what could happen if the hazardous conditions outside the APMC export building are not addressed.
With daily footfall remaining high at the Vashi APMC market, those working in and visiting the area continue to navigate the waterlogged stretch with caution, fearing that a tragedy could strike if urgent measures are not taken.
