Fadnavis Criticises UPA-Era NCERT Textbooks at BJP Meeting in Pune

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis criticised the previous United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government on Monday over the content of national school curricula, speaking at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Maharashtra State Executive Meeting in Pune.

Addressing party members during the executive session, Fadnavis alleged that school history textbooks published during the UPA administration gave significantly greater space to Mughal history while offering limited coverage of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

According to Fadnavis, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks under the UPA tenure allocated 13 pages to the Mughals, whereas the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was reduced to just a single passage.

The remarks were delivered as part of a broader critique targeting the Congress party over historical representation and the formulation of educational syllabi during its rule at the Centre.
