Fake doctor arrested in Juhu for ten crore rupee CSR fund fraud

A 50-year-old man who allegedly posed as a medical doctor for 28 years has been arrested in the Juhu area of Mumbai for allegedly siphoning off approximately ₹10 crore in corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.

The arrest was carried out by the Crime Branch Unit I of the Mumbai Police after receiving a tip-off regarding the suspect's activities. The accused, who used the name Dr. Dharmendra Kumar, allegedly diverted the ₹10 crore in CSR funds over the past three years. Following his arrest, he was produced before a local court on Sunday and has been remanded to police custody until July 16.

According to the police, the Crime Branch Unit I received information that the accused had forged various identity documents, opened multiple bank accounts, and worked with accomplices to misappropriate the CSR funds.

A search conducted at his residence in Juhu led to the recovery of several documents containing details of individuals and companies from Maharashtra and other states, as well as project reports. A police officer noted that the recovered material suggests the racket may have operated across multiple states.

During the search, officers also recovered medical equipment and treatment-related material from the Juhu residence. In addition, the police seized several identity documents, including a PAN card, an ID card, visiting cards, and certificates issued under the name of Dr. Dharmendra Kumar.

The accused has been booked at the Juhu police station. The charges against him have been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Medical Profession Act, and the National Medical Commission Act.

The police are now conducting further investigations to determine whether the accused operated entirely on his own or if he was part of a larger, organized network that helped him procure forged medical degrees and other fraudulent documents.
