FDA, Police Seize Altered Food Stock Worth Over Rs 76 Lakh in Navi Mumbai

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in coordination with the Navi Mumbai Police Crime Branch, has busted an alleged food-label tampering racket in Navi Mumbai and seized food products and expired stock worth more than Rs 76 lakh, officials said on Tuesday.

The joint operation uncovered an alleged operation involving the removal of original manufacturing and expiry dates from packaged food products, which were then replaced with fresh dates.

According to FDA officials, investigators also discovered stickers being placed directly over the original ingredient and nutritional information printed on the packaging of various products.

The suspected tampering was allegedly carried out to enable expired food stock to be repackaged and distributed for sale in the market.

Following the discovery, the authorities seized the entire stock of tampered and expired food items valued at over Rs 76 lakh as part of the enforcement action.
