FDA Seizes 1,309 Kg of Substandard Milk and Dairy Products in Mahape MIDC

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized 1,309 kilograms and litres of suspected substandard milk and dairy products valued at Rs 12.23 lakh during targeted inspections at three commercial dairy establishments in the Mahape MIDC area of Navi Mumbai. The regulatory action was conducted as part of a special enforcement drive against violations of food safety norms across the region.
The inspections were carried out on August 19 at Bhaskar Dairy, P.K. Dairy, and Vijay Dairy, all situated within the Mahape industrial belt. FDA officials initiated the crackdown after suspecting violations of key provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The dairy products were seized on the spot for further chemical testing and detailed examination.
At Bhaskar Dairy, the inspection team seized 473 kilograms of Chandrakamal brand skimmed milk powder valued at Rs 1.60 lakh, alongside 75 kilograms of Bhaskar brand medium-fat paneer worth Rs 22,500. The combined seizure at this specific unit stood at 548 kilograms of dairy products with an aggregate market value of Rs 1.83 lakh.
At P.K. Dairy, officials confiscated 393 litres of loose buffalo milk worth Rs 1.24 lakh and 368 litres of loose cow milk valued at Rs 1.16 lakh. The total quantity seized from this premises amounted to 761 litres of milk with a combined value of Rs 2.40 lakh.
At Vijay Dairy, the FDA team seized 138 litres of loose buffalo milk valued at approximately Rs 1.10 lakh and three litres of loose cow milk worth Rs 180. The total seizure at this establishment came to 141 litres worth Rs 1.10 lakh. According to the FDA, the milk seized from Vijay Dairy was suspected to be substandard, and further statutory proceedings are being pursued based on the inspection records and upcoming analysis.
The entire enforcement action was initiated under Sections 26 and 27 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The FDA confirmed that it has intensified its surveillance and inspection drives across milk and dairy establishments to strictly verify the quality and safety of dairy products being distributed to consumers.
