FDA Seizes 617 Liters of Substandard Milk in Raids Across Kalwa, Uran and Ulwe

FDA Seizes 617 Liters of Substandard Milk in Raids Across Kalwa, Uran and Ulwe

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized 617 liters of loose, unlabeled, and substandard milk during surprise raids on distribution centers across Kalwa, Uran, and Ulwe. The regulatory operation targeted five dairy establishments across the Thane and Navi Mumbai areas following concerns over poor product quality and the illegal distribution of unbranded dairy supplies.

The inspections revealed multiple compliance failures at local dairies. At Tuljai Dairy in Uran, authorities uncovered 350 liters of raw loose milk valued at ₹24,360. The confiscated stock at the outlet comprised 210 liters of buffalo milk and 140 liters of cow milk. A separate inspection at Aarti Dairy in Ulwe resulted in the confiscation of 167 liters of loose buffalo milk worth ₹13,026.

Further checks conducted across Kalwa uncovered additional violations at storefront operations. Pratik Milk Shopee was found holding 37 liters of loose pasteurized milk valued at ₹2,670. Regulatory teams also seized 50 liters of loose milk worth ₹3,340 from R.K. Dairy, alongside 13 liters of substandard stock valued at ₹898 from Laxmi Dairy.

In total, the seizures across the five dairy establishments amounted to stocks valued at ₹38,914. The action was carried out to eliminate public health risks posed by the distribution of unverified dairy products to local residents.

Alongside the dairy operations, the FDA intensified a broader campaign targeting banned and substandard commodities across Mumbai and the Konkan division. During searches conducted at 11 commercial premises, enforcement teams confiscated restricted stocks and materials totaling ₹23,16,167.

Under the leadership of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the department reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on consumer health violations. "The health and well-being of citizens will not be compromised under any circumstances," the administration stated, warning that strict legal action will continue against businesses engaged in the storage or sale of expired, tampered, unhygienic, or unsafe food products.
