FIR Filed Against Builders After Worker Dies at Vikhroli Construction Site

The Vikhroli police have registered an FIR against the owners of Reliable Corporation Pvt. Ltd., a labour contractor, and a site engineer following the death of a 38-year-old worker at an under-construction project in Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli East.

The case names company owners Fazal Shaikh and Shakir Shaikh, labour contractor Sakim, site engineer Prasanna, and others for alleged negligence and failing to provide mandatory safety equipment at Building No. 101.

According to police records, the deceased, Bikas Let, resided with his family in Adarsh Nagar, along Military Road near Marol Naka. He was employed as a mason under contractor Sakim. Let left home for work at around 8 am on August 12 but did not return home that night. When his family contacted Sakim, the contractor's son Danish claimed that Let had likely stayed late for overtime work and would return shortly.

At around 11 am the following morning, Let's 21-year-old relative, Akash Parimal Let, visited the construction site to search for him. Security guard Riyaz Mirza Beg stated that Let had been seen working on the 14th floor at approximately 12:30 pm on August 12, using a grinder to polish cement on a wall inside a lift duct. He had not been seen after that.

A subsequent search of the site led to the discovery of Let's body floating in a water tank located behind the building. Co-workers pulled him from the tank and took him to Rajawadi Hospital, where medical staff declared him dead before admission.

A preliminary police probe revealed that the lift duct lacked safety nets or other fall-prevention equipment, and Let had not been provided with a helmet or safety belt. The water tank behind the building also lacked safety netting or protective covers.

Based on a complaint filed by Akash Parimal Let, the Vikhroli police registered a case under Sections 106(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
