FIR Lodged After MHADA File for Panchpakhadi Plot in Thane Goes Missing
The Kherwadi police have registered a case against an unidentified person after the official file concerning Plot 67 at Panchpakhadi, a prime location in Thane, went missing from the records of the Konkan Board of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) in Bandra East.
Police are investigating when and how the file disappeared and who was responsible for its removal. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the official records are suspected to have gone missing or been removed at some point between 1990 and 2023.
The complainant in the case is Shyam Pandurangrao More, 36, an authorised officer and senior clerk working as Property Manager-1 with the Konkan Housing and Area Development Board. More handles records for Panchpakhadi, Majiwada, Vartaknagar, and Shivainagar colonies, a charge previously handled by Sachin Chavan.
The disappearance of the file came to light after an applicant, Jayraja Bolar Putran, sought documents regarding Plots 67 and 68 under the Right to Information (RTI) Act on March 23, 2023. Chavan searched the records at the time but was unable to trace the files. Putran subsequently approached the First Appellate Authority and later moved the Maharashtra State Information Commission.
During a hearing on May 26, 2026, Chavan informed the State Information Commission that the documents remained untraceable. The Commission then ordered a thorough search of the department records and directed that an FIR be registered if the missing files were not located.
Following the directive, More managed to locate a scanned copy related to Plot 68, but the original file for Plot 67 remained untraceable. After seeking a three-week extension during a hearing on June 17, More approached the police on July 21 to formally register the complaint.
