FIR Registered In Sewri After Illegal Water Connection Causes Rs 40000 Loss To BMC

The Sewri police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unidentified persons for allegedly stealing water by tapping into a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) pipeline in the Sewri neighborhood of Mumbai.

The action was initiated following a formal complaint lodged by a BMC sub-engineer. The sub-engineer reported that he had received information regarding the presence of an unauthorized connection along the municipal water pipeline in Sewri.

Upon receiving the tip, a municipal team conducted an inspection at the site. During the inspection, the civic officials discovered that a one-inch iron pipe had been illegally inserted into the municipal pipeline to divert water.

The BMC team immediately began the process of removing the illegal connection. To stop the water theft and secure the pipeline, the officials sealed the puncture point with a wooden plug.

During the course of the operation, a crowd of local residents gathered at the spot. The members of the crowd confronted the civic team and argued with the municipal officials as they worked to disconnect the illegal line.

Following the incident, the BMC officials approached the local police. The Sewri police subsequently registered the FIR against the unidentified suspects for the water theft. The investigation into the illegal tapping and the confrontation is ongoing.
