Fire Brigade Issues Ultimatum to Vile Parle Society Over Safety Compliance

The Mumbai Fire Brigade has issued an ultimatum to Shanta Bhuvan Society in Vile Parle after finding that the residential building lacked mandatory fire safety compliance following a recent blaze.

According to a senior fire official, the housing society failed to submit Form B, a mandatory fire safety compliance certificate. The absence of the required documentation was flagged during inspections conducted after the incident.

The enforcement action follows a fire that broke out at the residential building on August 11. Following the blaze, fire department personnel revisited the building on Thursday to advance their inquiry and assess the safety lapses on the premises.

During Thursday's visit, officials also worked to record statements from residents and key witnesses who were present during the incident.

Fire authorities confirmed that nearly all critical eyewitness accounts have been documented as part of the ongoing probe, with only one key witness statement remaining to be recorded.

“All key eyewitness statements have been recorded barring one; Hiren Batavia, the grandfather of the deceased two-and-a-half-year-old, is yet to provide his account due to some health issues,” a senior fire department officer said.
