Fire Destroys Plastic Manufacturing Unit in Thane's Upvan Industrial Area

A massive fire broke out at a plastic sheet manufacturing unit in the Upvan Industrial Area of Thane (West) early Sunday morning, destroying machinery and raw materials worth lakhs. Civic officials confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

Official sources stated that an alert regarding the blaze was received at approximately 6:21 AM. The fire originated at 'SRK Traders', a manufacturing factory spanning around 1,200 square feet located inside the Pandey Industrial Estate on Pokhran Road No. 1 in Upvan.

Emergency response teams were dispatched immediately to coordinate response operations. Disaster Management Officer Y. M. Tadvi arrived at the location along with officers and personnel from the Vartak Nagar Police Station.

The Thane Fire Brigade deployed two fire engines, two rescue vehicles, and one jumbo water tanker to the site. They were supported by two pickup vehicles from the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) as well as personnel from the state power utility, MSEDCL (Mahavitaran).

Firefighters and RDMC personnel brought the blaze under control and extinguished it around 7:00 AM following an operation that lasted approximately 40 minutes.

Although no human casualties occurred, the factory premises suffered severe structural and material damage. All machinery and the stored raw stock intended for plastic sheet manufacturing inside SRK Traders were completely gutted. The intense heat generated by the blaze also caused the cement roofing sheets of the industrial structure to shatter.

The exact cause behind the outbreak of the fire has not yet been determined, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
