Fire Guts Foam Mattress Unit In Rabale MIDC, Loss Estimated At Rs 50 Lakh

A major fire broke out at a foam mattress manufacturing unit in the Rabale MIDC area on Sunday morning, causing estimated property damages ranging between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 50 lakh. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident as the manufacturing facility was closed for its regular weekly holiday.

The blaze erupted at J.K. Trade, situated in the Thane-Belapur MIDC industrial belt, at around 7 am. The flames spread rapidly across the premises due to the presence of manufacturing materials, prompting emergency response teams and fire personnel to rush multiple fire tenders to the location.

According to company proprietor Kamlesh Jain, the company suffered substantial financial losses due to the blaze. Jain estimated the total damage to be approximately Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh.

To control the spreading inferno, fire tenders were dispatched from both the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). Firefighting teams from Airoli, Nerul, and Koparkhairane joined the operation on site.

Firefighters battled the flames for nearly two-and-a-half hours before successfully bringing the blaze under control. Officials noted that the timing of the incident averted potential tragedy, as the manufacturing unit was completely shut on Sunday for its weekly holiday, preventing any loss of life or injuries to workers.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained. Fire department personnel and local officials are continuing their assessment of the site to evaluate the structural integrity and determine the full extent of the damage.
