Five Rescued After Staircase Slab Collapses at Diva West Building in Thane

Five residents were safely rescued after a staircase slab collapsed at a residential building in Sabegaon, Diva West, Thane on Sunday, July 5, 2026. The incident, which occurred at the Datt Nivara Society, was reported to local authorities at 12:52 PM, prompting an immediate emergency response.

The emergency drew personnel from the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell, along with Fire Brigade personnel and local civic officials. The rescue operation was launched at the ground-plus-two-storey residential building, which is located behind the Vaibhav Dhaba landmark in the Sabegaon area of Diva West.

According to civic officials, the collapse of the staircase slab had trapped five residents inside the building. Firefighters and civic staff worked quickly to reach the trapped individuals and safely evacuated all five of them from the structure. The Thane Municipal Corporation confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident or the subsequent rescue operation.

The rescue operation was initiated immediately after the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell received the alert. Firefighters and civic staff coordinated their efforts to ensure a safe evacuation process for the trapped residents. The successful rescue of all five individuals without any reported injuries was a key outcome of the swift response by the emergency teams.

Following the successful evacuation of the residents, the emergency teams focused on securing the site. Fire Brigade personnel and civic staff worked to remove the remaining damaged portion of the staircase. This action was taken to eliminate any immediate danger to the building's occupants and the surrounding area.

The ground-plus-two-storey structure of Datt Nivara Society remained standing, but the removal of the compromised staircase portion was deemed necessary by the responding teams to prevent further structural hazards. Civic officials and disaster management personnel monitored the site throughout the operation to ensure the safety of the neighborhood.
