Five Senior Citizens Escape Unhurt as Gazebo Collapses at Sion East Garden

Five senior citizens narrowly escaped serious injury on the afternoon of August 12 when a gazebo-like seating structure collapsed at a civic park in Sion East’s Pratiksha Nagar. The incident occurred around 4.48 pm inside the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation-run Mala Garden, located opposite Building T/18.

The ground-floor seating facility featured a galvanised iron frame topped with a heavy cement slab roof. The heavy roof collapsed unexpectedly while the group of senior citizens was sitting underneath the structure.

Following the collapse, initial reports relayed to the Mumbai Fire Brigade indicated that three to four individuals were trapped beneath the fallen debris. However, all five senior citizens managed to escape without suffering serious injuries.

The sudden collapse of the heavy cement structure at the municipal garden has raised sharp concerns among visitors regarding the safety and maintenance of civic garden structures in the area.
