Five Youths Assaulted Near Dindigad Hill in Bhiwandi, Clash Follows at Hospital

Five youths from Shanti Nagar were allegedly assaulted by a group of people at Dindigad hill within the limits of Bhiwandi Taluka police station on Sunday, leading to a subsequent confrontation between both sides at a local hospital.
The five injured youths have been identified as Altamash Shaikh, 23, Umar Shaikh, 24, Husnain Pathan, 23, Abdurrahman Khan, 23, and Rehan Khan, 23. The incident took place when the group had gone towards Dindigad hill from its foothills during a holiday outing. They were allegedly intercepted by some youths who questioned them about why they were in the area.
A verbal altercation followed, after which one of the persons involved called others to the location. A larger group gathered and allegedly attacked the five youths. The victims claimed their two-wheelers were placed across the road to block their path, and they were threatened with a knife in an attempted robbery. They further alleged that cash was stolen and their mobile phones were damaged when they resisted.
Meanwhile, the opposing side reportedly raised objections to the youths carrying chicken, which allegedly caused the dispute to escalate. Police noted that the exact trigger for the confrontation remains under investigation as claims from both sides are being verified.
Following the assault, all five injured youths were taken to Bhiwandi IGM Sub-District Hospital for medical treatment. However, tension mounted when members from both groups arrived at the hospital premises, leading to a fresh confrontation. Police personnel intervened to bring the situation under control.
After learning of the incident, Samajwadi Party leader and MLA Abu Asim Azmi visited the hospital and later went to the Bhiwandi Taluka police station. Azmi demanded strict action against those involved in the assault and called for legal measures against individuals attempting to disrupt law and order.
Local MLA Rais Shaikh also visited the hospital and the police station. Shaikh claimed that a similar incident took place about three months ago, stating that firmer action back then could have prevented a repeat, and urged the police to act strictly.
Senior Police Inspector Harshvardhan Barve of Bhiwandi Taluka police station stated that the matter is being treated seriously. Statements of the injured youths are being recorded, and the process of registering cases from both sides has been initiated. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rahul Jhalte also visited the site and confirmed that an investigation is underway and the situation remains under control.
