Four Arrested, Juvenile Held for Rs 2.62 Lakh Coastal Road Cable Theft Near NSCI Dome
The Tardeo Police have arrested four men and detained a juvenile in connection with the theft of an electric cable worth approximately Rs 2.62 lakh from the Mumbai Coastal Road near the NSCI Dome in Worli. The case was solved within 48 hours of being reported.
According to police, complainant Tufankumar Sudarshan Panda, 36, approached the Tardeo Police Station on August 12, 2026, reporting that an unidentified person had stolen a blue-coloured copper cable installed for street lighting.
The incident took place between 3:00 am and 3:15 am near the NSCI Dome, between street light poles numbered 725 and 728 on Dharmaveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Marg, Coastal Road. The stolen material was a four-core, 35-square-metre copper cable with a PVC cover bearing the letters "KEI".
Following the complaint, the Tardeo Police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Crime Detection Team, led by Assistant Police Inspector Dilip Tambe and Police Sub-Inspector Pradeep Marathe, launched an investigation.
Investigators analysed CCTV footage, conducted technical surveillance, and gathered inputs from confidential informers to trace the suspects. The leads resulted in the arrest of four individuals identified as members of an alleged habitual gang.
The arrested suspects include Hussain Qadar Sheikh alias Choko, 39, from Bharat Nagar, Lotus, Worli; Noor Mohammad Amir Khan, 19, and Aman Bilal Sheikh, 22, both from Markandeshwar Nagar, Worli; and Zakar Shabbir Sheikh, 19, from near Patri Pul in Kalyan East. Police stated that all arrests were conducted in compliance with Supreme Court guidelines.
A juvenile in conflict with law was also detained from the Worli-Lotus area in connection with the theft and will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
