Four-Storey Durgeshwari Apartment Tilts in Nalasopara East Prompting Safe Evacuation

Panic gripped residents of a housing society in Om Nagar, Nalasopara East, on Friday evening after a four-storey residential building developed a visible tilt. The incident prompted an emergency response from local authorities, who evacuated all remaining occupants amid fears that the structure could collapse.
The incident took place at around 6:00 PM at Durgeshwari Apartment, located in Nalasopara East. Residents first noticed that the ageing four-storey building had tilted to one side. Concerned about their safety, they immediately alerted the Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) to the developing situation.
Upon receiving the alert, fire brigade personnel from the VVCMC rushed to the spot. After arriving at the Om Nagar site and assessing the building, emergency responders determined that the structure was potentially unsafe. They immediately launched an evacuation operation to get everyone out of the building.
The emergency evacuation operation lasted for nearly an hour. During this time, fire brigade personnel worked to ensure that all remaining residents inside the building were safely evacuated. As an additional safety precaution, the surrounding area around Durgeshwari Apartment was cordoned off to keep the public at a safe distance. No injuries were reported during the operation.
Chief Fire Officer Rohan More of the VVCMC provided details about the state of the building. He noted that the structure is old and that nearly half of its residents had already vacated their flats prior to the incident due to the building's deteriorating condition.
Speaking on the emergency evacuation, Chief Fire Officer More said that the decision to move the remaining residents was a necessary safety precaution. "Considering the ongoing monsoon and the possibility of the structure becoming more unstable, we decided to evacuate the remaining occupants as a precautionary measure," More said.
