Furnace Explosion at Viraj Profiles in Boisar's Tarapur MIDC Injures Three

A massive explosion occurred on Monday morning at the Viraj Profiles company plant located in the Tarapur MIDC area of Boisar in Palghar district, leaving at least three workers injured. The incident triggered three consecutive heavy blasts shortly after operations commenced for the morning shift.

The incident took place at the company's SMS-1 plant, a facility dedicated to manufacturing steel by melting scrap metal. Operations had just started when a furnace tank situated inside the plant exploded. Between 100 and 150 workers were present inside the facility at the time of the blast.

The force of the explosion sent tremors through the surrounding locality and blew off the factory's iron roofing sheets. The impact was strong enough to shatter glass panels at the facility's security guard cabin.

Police personnel rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. Three workers have been confirmed injured so far and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Authorities suspect the number of casualties could rise given the overall severity and impact of the blast.

The sudden explosion sparked panic among factory workers as well as residents living in nearby localities. The incident has once again highlighted recurring safety hazards within the Tarapur MIDC industrial zone, raising serious concerns regarding the safety and security of thousands of daily workers employed across the industrial belt.
