Gas Leak from Goods Train at Panvel Station Halts Rail Traffic, Major Mishap Averted

A gas leak from one of the pressure wagons of a goods train disrupted railway traffic late on Saturday evening at Panvel railway station in Navi Mumbai. The train, which was traveling from JNPA to Raipur in Chhattisgarh, was stopped at platform number 5 before being moved to Kalamboli to inspect and manage the leak.

Authorities evacuated platform number 5 as a safety precaution immediately after the leak was detected. A Panvel railway station official stated that the incident was reported at around 10 am, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) officials along with gas leak experts reached the station within half an hour to inspect the situation.

Upon discovering the gas leak, railway authorities alerted the Panvel fire brigade, whose personnel arrived to assess the situation and assist with safety measures. To ensure passenger and operational safety, two trains traveling in the down direction toward Goa and JNPA were halted well ahead of Panvel station. In addition, two other trains were stopped using red signals before they could approach the station area.

Personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP) were deployed to implement precautionary measures and manage crowd movement around the station premises.

Emergency teams successfully arrested the leak at the station. Following the containment, the goods train was moved toward Kalamboli station, where further safety inspections and allied measures were carried out. After completing all necessary checks, the train was cleared to continue its journey toward Raipur.

Officials confirmed that the timely intervention by emergency responders, railway authorities, and experts averted a major mishap. Suburban train services were not impacted by the incident and continued to operate normally.
