Goregaon East Residents Urge BMC to Install Streetlights on Royal Palms Road

Residents in Goregaon East have called on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take action and install streetlights along the road from Aarey Check Naka to the Royal Palms Gate, pointing out that the unlit stretch creates dangerous conditions for motorists and pedestrians at night.

According to residents, the road had previously lacked functioning streetlights due to ambiguity over which authority held jurisdiction over the corridor. The prolonged lack of clarity over ownership left the route without essential lighting infrastructure.

The situation changed following a court ruling that established the BMC's ownership of the road. With the civic body now in charge of the stretch, local citizens are urging municipal officials to address the safety hazard by restoring the old streetlights or setting up new illumination.

Aditya Bahulekar, a resident of Royal Palms, stated that road ownership had previously been unclear, leaving residents without access to streetlights. He noted that now that the BMC has officially assumed ownership post the court ruling, the corporation should move quickly to restore existing fixtures or install new streetlights.

The demand in Goregaon East comes amid wider concerns raised by citizens across Mumbai regarding civic neglect. Residents across the city have reported issues including dark roads, uncleared garbage, potholes, waterlogging, unsafe government premises, and alleged encroachments.

Civic authorities have responded to some of the complaints with promises of site inspections and repairs, while several other reported civic problems across Mumbai remain pending.
