Granite Slabs Fall From Under-Construction Metro Station in Mira Road East

A school van had a narrow escape after granite slabs fell from the foot overbridge of the under-construction Medetiya Nagar Metro station in Mira Road East around 11.50 am on Monday.

Shards from the falling granite punctured the left rear tyre of the school van. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) confirmed that the incident took place and stated that no one was injured. According to the MMRDA, the granite slabs fell into a barricaded area following accidental contact with a material basket that was being handled by a crane at the construction site.

The MMRDA claimed in an official statement that no children were present inside the vehicle at the time of the collapse. However, local eyewitnesses disputed the authority's version of events and provided video evidence supporting their claim that schoolchildren were inside the van.

Footage captured by a local resident showed the damaged school van with its punctured rear tyre at the Medetiya Nagar Metro station site immediately following the incident.
