A 32-year-old private security guard was arrested on Sunday after allegedly sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in a building restroom near the Pydhonie Police Station in Mumbai. The incident, which took place at approximately 2:15 PM on July 12, triggered widespread public outrage, leading to a massive protest and a road blockade that disrupted local traffic in the area.
The young victim, who resides near the premises of Maa Corporate Services, had gone to use a restroom inside the building. According to the Pydhonie Police, the accused allegedly lured the eight-year-old child inside the restroom and sexually assaulted her. The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the assault and was admitted to a hospital, where she is currently undergoing medical treatment.
The accused is a native of Jharkhand who had been working as a private security guard at Maa Corporate Services, a local courier company, for the past six months.
Following the incident, the victim's parents went to the Paydhuni Police Station to lodge an official complaint against the security guard. Police officials responded to the complaint swiftly and arrested the 32-year-old suspect. The Pydhonie Police stated that the accused is expected to be produced before a court, and further investigation into the case is actively underway.
The news of the alleged assault sparked severe anger among local residents, who quickly gathered to demand justice. A large crowd staged a demonstration directly outside the police station, demanding that stringent and immediate action be taken against the accused. The protesters blocked the road, which brought traffic in the vicinity to a complete standstill.
The mob eventually stopped the protest after being pacified by the police officers on duty. Following the demonstration, security was beefed up outside the police station to prevent any further unrest.
