Heavy Rain and Landslide Disrupt Mumbai-Goa Highway Traffic in Raigad District

On Sunday, heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging and triggered a landslide in Raigad district, submerging nearly 500 meters of the Mumbai-Goa National Highway (NH-66) and heavily disrupting traffic. The flooding occurred at Wakad Phata and Sukeli Ghat, while a separate landslide blocked the Roha-Alibag Road at Bhise Ghat, forcing the Highway Traffic Police (Raigad Range) to divert motorists to alternative routes.

The Highway Traffic Police, Raigad Range, reported that incessant rain led to nearly 500 meters of the NH-66 highway being completely submerged at Wakad Phata and Sukeli Ghat. The severe waterlogging made the stretch impassable, resulting in major traffic disruptions for commuters travelling between Mumbai and Goa.

In addition to the waterlogging on the national highway, a landslide occurred at Bhise Ghat on the Roha-Alibag Road. This second incident further complicated vehicular movement in the region, blocking key pathways and compounding the travel woes of local motorists and long-distance commuters.

In response to the dual traffic blockages, the Highway Traffic Police issued a travel advisory. Authorities urged motorists travelling between Mumbai and Goa to completely avoid the affected stretches of NH-66 and instead use the Mumbai-Pune Expressway to reach their destinations.

For commuters travelling from Mumbai towards Goa, the police recommended taking the Mumbai-Pune Expressway via Pune, Tamhini Ghat, and Nizampur Naka. Motorists can then rejoin NH-66 at Mangaon to continue their journey.

Conversely, those travelling from Goa towards Mumbai were instructed to follow the exact reverse route. This diversion directs drivers through Mangaon, Nizampur Naka, Tamhini Ghat, Pune, and onto the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

The Highway Traffic Police, Raigad Range, has urged all commuters to avoid these affected stretches of road until normal traffic movement is fully restored. Authorities advised travellers to strictly follow official traffic advisories while planning their journeys through the region.
