Heavy Rain Causes 3km Jam Near Juinagar and Floods Vashi APMC Market

Heavy overnight rainfall lashed Navi Mumbai on Tuesday morning, leading to severe waterlogging and major traffic disruptions near Juinagar railway station and the APMC market in Vashi. The intense spell of monsoon activity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region left several low-lying areas vulnerable to flooding after intermittent showers persisted through the night.

One of the worst-affected stretches was near the Juinagar railway station on the Sion–Panvel Highway towards Mumbai. Heavy water accumulation on the road caused vehicular movement to slow down considerably. The resulting traffic congestion stretched nearly two to three kilometres, forcing daily commuters to struggle as they navigated their vehicles through the flooded highway.

Severe waterlogging was also reported at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) market in Vashi. Despite the knee-deep water filling the busy market area, local traders and visitors continued their daily business activities, wading through the flooded premises to conduct transactions.

The flooding on Tuesday morning followed a similar pattern from the previous day. Navi Mumbai had witnessed comparable waterlogging on Monday after intense overnight showers. On Monday, roads in Vashi were submerged under water, which severely affected traffic movement and caused significant inconvenience to daily commuters.

According to weather forecasts, Navi Mumbai is expected to continue receiving rainfall throughout Tuesday. Temperatures are predicted to hover around 27 degrees Celsius for most of the day, with a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has placed Navi Mumbai under a yellow alert. This alert warns of continued rainfall activity and potential thunderstorms in isolated areas. Local authorities have advised residents and commuters to remain cautious while travelling through waterlogged stretches across the region as monsoon intensity remains high.
