Heavy Rain Causes Waterlogging and Traffic Slowdowns Across Thane and MMR

Heavy early-morning rainfall lashed parts of Thane, Mumbai, and neighbouring districts on Tuesday, causing severe waterlogging and major traffic disruptions across key transit corridors, including the Thane-Belapur Road and the Sion-Belapur Highway.

The downpour began around 4 am across the eastern and western suburbs and remained intense through the early hours before easing slightly later in the morning. Following the heavy showers reported in isolated areas, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast light to moderate rainfall across the city and neighbouring districts.

Vehicular movement was severely hampered across major road networks in the region. Multiple locations along the Thane-Belapur Road experienced waterlogging that affected traffic flow. Additionally, severe potholes further slowed down vehicular movement on the Sion-Belapur Highway, while traffic movement also slowed considerably along the Eastern Express Highway and the Western Express Highway earlier in the day.

In Vasai, heavy rainfall triggered severe waterlogging along Evershine Road, slowing traffic and leading to long queues of vehicles. Both two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers struggled to navigate through the flooded stretch. Visuals from the area showed commuters wading through accumulated water as vehicles struggled to pass through inundated roads.

Nalasopara also reported severe waterlogging following heavy rainfall in the region. Water accumulation on the eastern road outside Nalasopara Railway Station caused major inconvenience to commuters struggling to navigate the flooded stretch amid persistent rain. Visuals from the location showed people walking through waterlogged streets, several vehicles parked along one side of the stretch, and rainwater entering nearby shops, affecting local businesses.
