Heavy Rain Forces Closure of Andheri East Subway and Floods Western Express Highway

On Saturday, heavy rainfall triggered severe waterlogging at the Andheri East Subway, forcing authorities to temporarily close the key route to both vehicular and pedestrian movement. The disruption followed a Red Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which brought continuous downpours to Mumbai and severely impacted local transit.
To manage the flooding at the Andheri East Subway, local authorities deployed dewatering pumps to drain the accumulated rainwater. Both ends of the subway were barricaded to prevent access as rising water levels posed a safety risk to commuters and pedestrians.
The heavy rain also caused major disruptions nearby on the Western Express Highway in Goregaon East. The stretch of highway and the adjacent footpaths in front of Mahananda Dairy became severely waterlogged. In a video shared by Instagram user dahisarkarofficial, the extent of the flooding was visible as vehicles struggled to move through the waterlogged stretch amid the intense rainfall.
Several vehicles were forced to slow down due to the deep water on both sides of the road. Some cars were seen half-submerged in the rainwater, while drivers and passengers struggled to move their vehicles through the accumulated water.
The severe weather disrupted normal life for residents across the area. Rainwater entered homes and shops in several neighborhoods, causing significant inconvenience.
In addition to road traffic disruptions, the heavy rains impacted the city's railway network. Rail tracks were flooded with rainwater, causing local train services across the Central, Western, and Harbour lines to run behind schedule. This led to delays and inconvenience for thousands of daily commuters.
Multiple incidents of trees collapsing and being uprooted were also reported across the city. As a safety precaution amid the intense rainfall, schools and colleges were given a holiday to prioritize the safety of students.
