Heavy Rain Waterlogs Andheri Roads and Delays Mumbai Suburban Trains

Heavy rainfall lashed Andheri and several other parts of Mumbai on Friday, causing severe waterlogging, slowing down road traffic during the morning rush hour, and delaying suburban train services. The intense downpour, which recorded over 140 mm of rain in multiple areas over a 24-hour period, prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an Orange Alert for the city.

In Andheri, local municipal weather stations recorded significant rainfall levels between 8 am on July 2 and 6 am on July 3. The Malpa Dongari Municipal School in Andheri recorded 136.6 mm of rainfall, while the K East Ward Office received 134.6 mm. Additionally, the Versova Wastewater Treatment Facility and Lagoons logged 129.4 mm, and the Andheri Fire Station recorded 128.6 mm.

The heavy showers resulted in severe waterlogging across key low-lying areas, including Sion, Dadar, Hindmata, Parel, Charkop, Worli, Goregaon, and Andheri. The accumulation of rainwater caused major inconveniences for office-goers, with vehicles forced to wade slowly through submerged streets during the morning commute. Overnight, intense rain activity was also recorded along Marine Drive, while Dadar East and Sion Gandhi Market experienced partial submergence.

Suburban railway services on all major lines operated with delays due to the heavy rains. Western and Harbour line trains were delayed by approximately 10 minutes, while Central Railway services ran up to 15 minutes late.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the highest rainfall in South Mumbai was recorded at Mandvi Fire Station with 150.2 mm, followed by Malabar Hill at 145.8 mm. In the eastern suburbs, Paspoli Powai Municipal School recorded 124 mm of rainfall.

The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs throughout Friday, with the possibility of extremely heavy showers and occasional gusty winds reaching speeds of 50 to 60 kmph. Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious near waterlogged areas.
