Heavy rains in Maharashtra kill 13 and injure 10 as floods and landslides hit state

In Mumbai and several other districts of Maharashtra, continuous heavy downpours over a 48-hour period leading up to July 6, 2026, have resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people. The severe monsoon weather has also left 10 others injured, as torrential rains triggered multiple disasters including landslides, building collapses, and widespread flooding across the region.
The relentless rainfall has brought transport networks to a complete standstill, disrupting daily life for residents in the affected areas. Both local transport systems and general commuting have been heavily impacted by the severe flooding that followed the continuous downpours, making movement nearly impossible in several districts.
According to reports from the state, the monsoon fury caused widespread destruction over the two-day period. Landslides and building collapses were among the primary causes of casualties, as structures and terrains succumbed to the heavy volume of water. The flooding has inundated streets and residential areas, presenting hazardous conditions for the residents of Maharashtra.
The heavy monsoon rains, which have been active over the past couple of days, have caused severe disruptions. Mumbai, which has been witnessing a heavy downpour, experienced significant challenges. The continuous nature of the rain meant that water levels rose rapidly in low-lying areas, leading to severe flooding that halted daily activities.
The transport networks, which serve as the lifeline for millions of commuters in Mumbai and neighboring districts, were rendered non-operational or severely delayed, bringing normal activity to a halt. As of July 6, 2026, the official count of casualties stood at 13 dead and 10 injured. The incidents of building collapses and landslides during this 48-hour window underscore the severe impact of the continuous downpours on both residential buildings and the natural landscape of the state.
