Human leg found under Amritsar-CSMT Express coach at Mumbai coaching yard

On Friday morning, July 17, 2026, an amputated human leg was found lodged beneath a coach of the Amritsar-CSMT Express during routine maintenance at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) coaching yard in Mumbai. The discovery of the body part has prompted an immediate investigation by the Government Railway Police (GRP).

The incident came to light when cleaning staff were performing routine washing of the train at the CSMT coaching yard. During the cleaning process, the staff noticed a severed human limb located below the M2 coach of the Amritsar-CSMT Express. The limb was identified as an amputated leg, severed below the knee.

Upon being informed of the discovery, officers from the CSMT GRP rushed to the coaching yard. The police team conducted a panchnama at the scene to document the findings before initiating further procedures.

Following the completion of the on-site investigation, the GRP sent the amputated leg to St. George's Government Hospital for a forensic examination.

The GRP has launched an investigation to establish the identity of the person and determine the circumstances under which the leg became lodged beneath the train coach. The forensic examination at St. George's Government Hospital is expected to provide further details for the ongoing inquiry.
