IMD Forecasts Intermittent Rain and Gusty Winds for Mumbai, No Rain Alert Issued

Mumbai witnessed light rain, overcast skies, and gusty winds on Tuesday morning as active monsoon conditions prevailed across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast another day of intermittent rainfall and thundershowers for the region, while noting that no rain alert has been issued for Mumbai this week.

According to the IMD forecast, Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to remain generally cloudy through Tuesday, with light to moderate rain expected across the day. Although widespread heavy downpours are considered unlikely, the weather department noted that some isolated areas could receive moderate to heavy showers, particularly during intense spells of rain.

The weather department also forecast gusty winds alongside the precipitation. Wind speeds across the city are projected to remain around 40 to 50 kmph, with gusts potentially accelerating to 50 to 60 kmph during stronger rain spells. In terms of temperature, the maximum temperature is likely to settle around 31°C, after Mumbai recorded a morning minimum temperature of 29°C on Tuesday.

Since the beginning of August, Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region have witnessed several spells of moderate to heavy rainfall. Even without official weather warnings or alerts in effect for the city, the IMD expects light to moderate showers to continue throughout the remainder of the week. Residents across the metropolitan area can anticipate standard monsoon conditions, including cloudy skies, intermittent rain showers, and periodic gusty winds.

The ongoing monsoon activity has simultaneously maintained the city's air quality within a healthy range. Official data revealed that Mumbai's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 23 on Tuesday morning, placing it firmly in the 'Good' category. Under standard AQI classifications, any reading between 0 and 50 is categorized as 'Good', signaling clean air and minimal health risk for the general population.
