IMD Forecasts Light Rain and Gusty Winds for Mumbai With No Rain Alert for Week

Mumbai woke up to overcast skies and gusty winds on Monday as monsoon conditions continued across the city and its surrounding suburbs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast light rainfall and thundershowers across several areas during the day, noting that no rain alert has been issued for Mumbai through the remainder of the week.

According to the weather department, Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to remain generally cloudy, with light to moderate rainfall likely at several locations. While widespread heavy rainfall is not anticipated, isolated pockets may experience moderate to heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds.

Wind speeds are projected to hover between 40 and 50 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching 50 to 60 kmph during intense spells of rain. The maximum temperature across the city is expected to stay around 33 degrees Celsius, following a minimum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius recorded on Monday morning.

Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region had recorded multiple moderate to heavy spells of rain during the early days of August. Rainfall activity subsequently declined later in the month, leaving the city with only occasional light to moderate showers.

Alongside the mild weather conditions, Mumbai's air quality remained in the 'Good' category on Monday morning. Official data showed the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 17.

Under the standard AQI classification system, readings between 0 and 50 are categorized as 'Good', while readings between 51 and 100 are marked as 'Moderate'. Levels between 101 and 200 fall under 'Poor', 201 to 300 under 'Unhealthy', and any reading above 300 is classified as 'Severe'.

With intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershowers expected, commuters have been advised to exercise caution during sudden intense showers and gusty winds, particularly while moving through low-lying areas and open stretches across the city.
