IMD Forecasts Light Rain and Gusty Winds for Mumbai With No Weather Alert

Mumbai woke up to light rain, overcast skies, and gusty winds on Tuesday as active monsoon conditions continued across the city and its suburbs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast intermittent rainfall and thundershowers through the day, though no formal weather alert has been issued for the city this week.
According to the weather department, skies across Mumbai and the surrounding metropolitan region are expected to stay generally cloudy. While widespread heavy downpours are not anticipated, isolated areas may witness moderate to heavy showers during intense spells.
The IMD has also warned of strong winds accompanying the rainfall. Sustained wind speeds are projected to hover around 40 to 50 kmph, with gusts potentially touching 50 to 60 kmph during heavier spells of rain. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature recorded in the morning was 29 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 33 degrees Celsius.
Monsoon activity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region has slowed down compared to earlier in the season. The region experienced several moderate to heavy rain spells during the opening days of August before precipitation levels gradually declined later in the month. Officials noted that overall rainfall activity is expected to remain largely subdued through September, even as intermittent showers persist.
Light to moderate showers are likely to occur at intervals throughout the week, bringing typical monsoon conditions that include cloudy skies and gusty breezes. Commuters across the city have been advised to exercise caution during sudden intense spells, especially when traveling through low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.
Alongside the rainy weather, Mumbai recorded clean air on Tuesday morning. Official data showed the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 17, placing it comfortably in the 'Good' category. Under national classification standards, AQI readings between 0 and 50 are rated 'Good', 51 to 100 are 'Moderate', 101 to 200 are 'Poor', 201 to 300 are 'Unhealthy', and levels above 300 are considered 'Severe'.
