IMD Forecasts Light Showers for Mumbai as Rain Alerts End Ahead of Weekend

Mumbai experienced overcast skies, gusty winds, and light rainfall on Friday morning as monsoon conditions continued across the city and its surrounding suburbs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) did not issue any rain alerts for Friday or the upcoming weekend, marking a shift after the city remained under a yellow alert on Thursday.

Several parts of Mumbai received light to moderate showers overnight, providing relief from humid conditions. According to the IMD forecast, the city is expected to see generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall and occasional thundershowers throughout the day across Mumbai and its suburban areas.

While widespread heavy downpours are not expected, isolated locations across the city could still witness moderate to heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds. The weather department noted that wind speeds are likely to range between 40 kmph and 50 kmph, with peak gusts potentially reaching between 50 kmph and 60 kmph during intense spells of rainfall.

Temperatures in the city remained moderate, with the minimum temperature recorded at 29 degrees Celsius on Friday morning. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 31 degrees Celsius during the day.

The ongoing monsoon showers have also maintained clean air across the metropolis. Official data showed Mumbai's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 24 on Friday morning, placing it firmly in the 'Good' category. An AQI reading between 0 and 50 indicates clean air quality with minimal health risks for residents.

With no active weather warnings in place, forecasters indicated that Mumbai is set to experience typical monsoon weather over the next few days, characterized by intermittent rain, cloud cover, and occasional strong winds.
