IMD Forecasts Light To Moderate Rain For Mumbai As AQI Stays In Good Category

Mumbai and its suburbs experienced overcast skies, light rainfall, and gusty winds on Wednesday as monsoon activity continued across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers through the day, confirming that no rain alert has been issued for the city this week.

According to the weather department, skies over Mumbai and its neighbouring suburbs are likely to stay generally cloudy throughout Wednesday, with light to moderate showers expected in several locations. While widespread heavy rainfall is unlikely, isolated pockets could witness moderate to heavy spells accompanied by strong winds.

Winds across the city are expected to blow at speeds between 40 kmph and 50 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching 50 kmph to 60 kmph during intense rain spells. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature recorded on Wednesday morning was 29 degrees Celsius.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region has seen consistent monsoon activity since the beginning of August, with several spells of moderate to heavy rainfall reported over the past week. Meteorologists expect light to moderate rain to continue through the rest of the week, keeping the city and nearby localities cloudy and wet.

Despite the ongoing rain, the city's air quality remained in the 'Good' category on Wednesday morning, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 28. Under standard classifications, an AQI between 0 and 50 indicates clean air and minimal health risks for the public.

With no official weather warnings active, the city is expected to see intermittent showers rather than extended heavy downpours. However, commuters have been cautioned that temporary disruptions remain possible in low-lying and waterlogging-prone areas during brief, intense spells of rainfall.
