IMD forecasts rain and thunder in Mumbai as air quality remains satisfactory

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather forecast for Mumbai and its suburbs on Sunday, 28 June 2026, predicting a day of light to moderate rain. Along with the wet spell, the weather agency warned of lightning and thunder accompanying the rainfall, which was expected to occur under a partly cloudy sky throughout the city.

According to the IMD, the intermittent rain and sudden thunderstorms were likely to influence the daily weather conditions across the metropolitan area. Residents in Mumbai and its surrounding suburbs were advised of these steady conditions, with the temperature forecast showing a maximum temperature of around 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.

In addition to the weather updates provided by the India Meteorological Department, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) released data regarding the city's atmospheric conditions. Despite the wet spell and intermittent rain, the air quality in Mumbai and its suburbs continued to remain within the satisfactory range on Sunday.

According to the official readings from the Central Pollution Control Board’s Sameer mobile application, Mumbai recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 52. An AQI of 52 indicates that the air quality is generally satisfactory, though the CPCB noted that it could still cause minor breathing discomfort for sensitive individuals in the area.

The day's weather was characterized by a combination of a partly cloudy sky and the expected light to moderate rain. The IMD's forecast emphasized that the lightning, thunder, and intermittent rain showers would be the primary factors influencing the local environment, while the temperatures remained stable between 27 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius.

The satisfactory air quality index of 52, as recorded by the Central Pollution Control Board, highlighted that the rain did not negatively impact the overall air conditions, save for the minor breathing discomfort noted for sensitive groups.
