IMD Issues Green Alert as Rainfall Slows Down Across Thane and Mumbai

The India Meteorological Department has indicated light to moderate rainfall this week for Thane, Mumbai, and neighbouring districts, issuing a green alert across the region. The alert covers Thane, Palghar, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts following a significant drop in precipitation during the first week of August.

The current weather report highlights a sharp contrast between the precipitation levels recorded in July and early August. Rainfall slowed down markedly in the first week of August after heavy showers hit the region in July.

During the first week of August, Santacruz registered 83.7 mm of rainfall, while Colaba recorded 36.2 mm. These figures stand in sharp contrast to the corresponding period in July, when Santacruz recorded 853 mm and Colaba received 1,017.5 mm of rainfall.

Brief showers were recorded during the week, including an instance affecting commuters at Bandra railway station on August 5.

The IMD expects light to moderate spells of rain to continue across Thane and the adjoining districts under the green alert advisory.
